Central NSW has been somewhat overlooked by Australian holidaymakers in the past, but many people are now finding it an interesting and fun destination.

Central New South Wales is packed with interesting events, festivals and attractions. Travellers can coordinate their visit with a key event such as the Young Cherry Festival, the Parkes Elvis Festival or the Coonamble Campdraft and Rodeo. Thess events are usually well organised and many run throughout a full weekend. Finding accomodation at these times can be difficult so booking ahead is advised.

Accomodation in Country NSW

Unique accomodation is common in Country New South Wales. Many old buildings have been saved by turning them into interesting accomodation. Try The Old Parkes Convent (www.visitparkes.com.au) when in Parkes or experience farm life at Banderra Farm Stay (www.visitwellington.com.au) near Molong which is a lovely old farm homestead.

Step Back in TimeCentral New South Wales is the place to see what Australia was like 100 years ago. Some small towns like Sofala (near Bathurst) and Millthorpe (near Orange) remain relatively untouched. Reminders of our convict past are scattered throughout the region and finding ancestors remains a popular tourist pastime. Visit the Pioneer Cemetry on the outskirts of Wellington (near Dubbo) for an interesting insight into the lives of our forefathers.

Cafes, Restaurants, WineriesThere is a misconception that travelling past the Blue Mountains means leaving your gourmet tastes behind. Nothing could be further from the truth as former city-dwellers and metro-trained chefs pull up stumps and settle in the country to set up amazing restaurants in Central New South Wales. Try Orange for award-winning restaurants, Cowra for some of Australia's best wineries and Coonamble for quirky cafes.

Travel in Summer

Yes, it's hot. Sometimes very hot. But travelling in Central New South Wales during Summer means many excuses to visit one of the huge number of pubs and clubs in the area. Pubs and Clubs across regional NSW are experiencing a transformation as they introduce updated menus and moden decor. Never fear though, the quintessential Aussie pub is still alive and kciking in Central New South Wales. The local pub is the best place to meet a local and find out the goss. Never underestimate the local swimming pool for a cool-off. Country New South Wales experiences some of the hottest Summers in Australia, and as such, the council-run swimming pools feature slippery dips, games and music. Don't miss Dubbo's new water park featuring a great array of sprinklers and water-fun.
